Mountain trip

We decided to take the opportunity and visit the Roan Mtn house . The drive up was gorgeous. This is the view from a rest area outside of Spruce Pine.
The house is at an elevation of about 5000 feet, so it is literally like being in the clouds at times. When we arrived the clouds rolled in and it rained but we were rewarded with this beautiful rainbow.
But we didn't hesitate to explore the next morning even though it was in the 40s and misty. We had fun in the mud!
Brent is quite the sport, carrying the kids for times upon request.
Even as we were walking the clouds began to lift.
There was quite a beautiful waterfall just down the road that we enjoyed tossing sticks in and seeing where they ended up.
It shaped up to be a beautiful day.
Sam loves examining the rocks and bugs.
Hannah loves an opportunity to pose for the camera.
We made it to Roan High Bluff. I don't know that I have seen it on such a clear day! We can drive to the top and hike out .5 mile to the overlook.
After, that we hiked up to Round Bald - a favorite and just another .5 mile up from Carvers Gap.
These are the panoramas from the top. Love this place. We haven't gone farther toward Grassy Ridge with the kids but this is still a great spot.
Even the evening provided a lovely view. God has made a beautiful world. Nonni and Opa joined us in the evening.
The next day we decided to explore an area Sara and the kids had not been to - Mt Mitchell. 30+ years in NC and never been there - great day with great views!
We enjoyed a fun picnic in the park.
And we enjoyed the views from the Blue Ridge Parkway in our way home.
