This is a post with stories but no pictures as of yet. B/c child #2 is coming so close behind child #1 we decided we needed another crib. I know the safety experts say to purchase a new crib but I felt that since were armed with what the slat spacing needed to be and such that we could safely purchase a used crib. We got a great deal on Hannah's crib and dresser at a local consignment shop. We think the crib was probably made in the early 90's b/c of some documentation we found with it. It is a nice crib however the age has shown itself through the wobbliness and an older spring base that has torn up the underside of the mattress so we wanted a bit newer crib this time. Ikea (great store for those that don't know it) has a base crib for not much money so we decided to go with that but in the meantime I had been looking on Craigslist for the same model so we didn't have to drive to Charlotte which is the closest Ikea store. Well we found one at an even better deal . On Friday we went to look at it and ended up buying it - it is just 2 years old and in good shape and hopefully more solid b/c if this boy is as active on the outside as he appears to be on the inside then we need a sturdy crib!!
Anyway - this is a long prelude to the rest of the story. The crib was being sold by a family in a nearby city - They lived in a cool older home. The coolest part was they live in the city and have a large, great garden out back. Tons of stuff growing. They were very hospitable with we asked to see the garden and even gave us some kale which we enjoyed last night in addition to some onions we can root and a couple of radishes. They also have chickens they use for harvesting eggs. Hannah saw her first (with feathers) chickens! She didn't know what to think about it but we thought it was cool we got to show her up close and personal! Their 3 year old was running around picking them up and showing them to us etc. We have said we would like to have a 2-3 in our backyard (I know that may sound odd - but it is a great way to have our own eggs cheap). But although our town allows them, our neighborhood covenants do not :(
So that was farm animal #1.
Farm animal # 2 and 3 were encountered later the same day when we took Hannah for some time at a great park we found recently at a nearby lake. On our way home we took the scenic route and passed a couple of fields of cows - although we weren't able to get out of the car we were able to stop the car and let Hannah see the cows - she is working on her animal noises and has Mooo (or rather Mmmmmm) down pat. We also passed some horses that we were able to stop for and Hannah was able to see them.
So although we don't have pictures to remember these events we have this reflection on the blog. We expect she will see more of all the animals coming up but it was cool to experience what we did.
More later on her first Kayak ride with Daddy and then our family kayak ride today.
