Bellybuttons and Playmates

So things are busy but going well! We visited a pediatric surgeon last week b/c Sam's cord hasn't fallen off and we got an education about cords that was good. The short of it is that the surgeon isn't worried until at least 12 weeks so we have a while longer to wait. He said a cord's falling off is a result of the body's immune system getting rid of it - since it is foreign tissue -part of the mom's body not the baby's. If at 12 weeks the cord is still attached one might start to think that there could be a problem with the child's immune system but the surgeon said that the base of Sam's cord looks like it is healing well and that it should fall off before 12 weeks - so we are waiting for Sam's bellybutton :) Interesting tidbit - did you know that the vessels that make up the cord on the inside of the child turn into ligament around the liver? Hannah is fascinated with belly buttons so she too is eagerly awaiting Sam's belly button - we think he will be an innie :)

I recently met a mom with 1 daughter 2 months older than Hannah and another daughter 1 month older than Sam. We have been having regular playdates and I along with Hannah (Sam sleeps most of the time) are enjoying ourselves. It is nice to see Hannah interact with a child of her own age and this mom knows tons about cool activities going on in the area. Also it is cool to know someone else with kids the same distance apart!

This isn't the best quality but I have to act quick if I want to catch Hannah kissing Sam. She really is sweet with him - often "sharing" her toys, wanting to touch his head or his foot or his hand. I just love seeing her interact with him and will enjoy the day when he is totally entertained by her :)
