The last full day

This was our last full day in the city. We had planned to cross the bridge and take the kids to the Marin Headlands to see the redwoods but John and Judy offered to lead us on a hike around the Presidio and we jumped at the chance. We are so glad we did! After a leisurely morning we headed over to the Hedges to meet John, Judy, Andrea, Gabrielle, Evan and Kate and then headed off for the hike. The weather could not have been more perfect - sunny, warm with a cool breeze. The trail started in a wooded area and then changed to a scrubby landscape, then morphed into a trail through tree roots before opening up to Baker beach. The views were stunning. The Golden Gate bridge was in the distance to the north and the beach stretched for a long time with gentle surf (although there were rip tide warnings). We packed the kids' bathing suits for a quick change and let them play in the sand and surf for a while, while Gabriella and Kate went for a run. We eventually managed to head our group northward to walk along the old gunnery installations and then make our way along the bluffs - again just stunning were the views! We made our way passed a very crowded Golden Gate Bridge to the trail that passed above Crissy field and gave clear views of the city. We finished our trek by winding through more woods and back to the car. All told it was a 5-6 mile hike. We had lots of helpers to carry the kids on the last part of the hike but they did so well! Such troopers and great traveling companions. We treated everyone for ice cream at Xanath on Mission which was quite yummy before parting ways. After having a bit of down time back at the airbnb we headed out for dinner at a Cambodian place recommended by John which did not disappoint. Brent had a lemongrass clay pot dish and I had a pumpkin curry dish while the kids enjoyed some spring rolls and an appetizer of fresh spinach leaves that you could wrap around little treats like roasted coconut and peanuts and such. It was quite delightful! We then treated the kids to a second ice cream treat at Mitchell's Ice Cream since it was our last full day. After such an adventure, we enjoyed an early bedtime and some sound sleep.
